The United States never converted to metric because we were all too busy trying to convert inches to millimeters. Instead, we should have skipped the conversion part and just used the new system. Only by measuring something or speaking the language do we get the feel for it. We burdened everyone with all of these approximations and formulae instead of simply moving on. I’m sure there’s a bigger metaphor here.

It’s *much* easier to just start using the metric system. I’ve gotten to the point where I can think in both Celsius and Fahrenheit, and “convert” between them based on how the temperature feels.
It also helps when talking to my foreign friends. They know metric better than we do.
