Honestly, it’s a perfect name. It’s short, it’s simple, it’s monosyllabic.
It’s also the number one hit on Google when you type in ‘wii’. Without a doubt this makes the Nintendo Wii a better name than the Nintendo Revolution.
- wii - 85,400,000 results, 53,800,000 for the terms ‘nintendo wii’.
- revolution - 391,000,000 results, 39,800,000 for ‘nintendo revolution’
- playstation 3 - 214,000,000 results, compared to 95,600,000 for the quoted version. Numbers are meaningless without quotes on google.
- 360 - 585,000,000 results. xbox 360 retrieves 195,000,000 of them.
so while the Nintendo Wii may have an odd name, it gets a larger share (in percent) of a search on the product nickname. Revolution was likely poor, since it seems every product promises ‘la Revolucion!’ or rotation of some sort. Flea and tick powder is a revolution. Tired.
So it may not test well (I happen to like Wii a lot) but it sure searches well, and lately that’s all that counts. Just ask miserable failure.

Eh…
Problem not yet solved…
I guess you have do some research on Wii, but you have not explain Why it’s called ‘Wii’…
Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?
Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes this console is for everyone.
Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
I did have a bit about the ‘we’ in wii, but I figured it was a bit obvious, so i took it out. Wii really is disruptive in the sense that it seems to be turning toward co-operative games instead of the ‘deathmatch’ crowd that x360 and ps3 are likely to attract.
Look at the recent comments to the press… “buy an x360 AND a Wii” “Buy a PS3 AND a Wii”… I for one will likely just buy a Wii and leave the other two behind. Because they don’t stand for gamers, they stand for the games-becoming-movies that are dull to play.
Wii is gameplay-centred, and it’s user-centred, instead of self-centred.
And all I can think about when I hear Wii is The squirrel….
Or this one…. not as good as the original, but just what the rest of us were thinking.
